The Law Student Professionalism Series, Part II: Exam & Study Intensive

The Chicago Committee will be presenting the second program in its Law Student Professionalism Series called the Exam & Study Intensive. This program will take place on Monday, October 20, 2008 from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm, and will be hosted by Baker & McKenzie LLP. It will be a great program that will prepare first-year law students for exams and assignments by providing them with the study skills needed to perform well in law school.

Additional details for the program are below. Space is limited. Please RSVP to Eileen Rosete via email at erosete@chicagocommittee.org by Friday, October 17, 2008. Please feel free to forward this invitation to first-year law students who might be interested!

ABA Networking event for women of color

On Thursday, October 30, from 5:30-7:30, the ABA will be having a panel discussion and networking session for women of color. This coincides with the publication of their report on the status of women of color in the legal profession. The event will be held in the offices of Mayer Brown (71 S. Wacker, Chicago). It seems like this event is restricted to 2L and 3L women of color students. But still, it's another opportunity to make connections with lawyers in the community.

KABA Social, October 28, 6pm

The Korean American Bar Association is having a happy hour starting at 6pm on October 28 at Brando's. Brando's is located at 343 S. Dearborn. If you register via evite, your first drink is free! Another great opportunity to meet more lawyers.

Polling station volunteers needed

Both AAI and AALDEF are looking for volunteers to monitor polling stations on election day.

1) AALDEF will be holding an orientation session at Loyola University on Tuesday, October 21 at 1 E. Pearson, room 140, from 6-7:30pm. AALDEF is working with Loyola's APALSA.

2) AAI is looking for volunteers to be poll monitors and exit pollers. There's no orientation, and sign up sheets are available if you're interested.

Obviously this will be a one-day event, so come on out and help ensure that every citizen gets their chance to vote.

Meet a Lawyer Via APALSA

When: Thursday, October 9, 2008, from 4:45-5:30

Details: See Flyer.

From our Treasurer:
For our October APALSA General Meeting/Speaker's Series Event we will be hosting Joy Lyu Monahan and Gary Chyi, both of
Kirkland & Ellis, next Thursday afternoon, October 9th, at 4:45 p.m. in Room 703. The two attorneys will speak about their
careers as Asian American attorneys as well as their respective practice areas, Bankruptcy (Joy--currently she is very busy!)
and Litigation (Gary). There will be free pizza and pop.

I hope that you can make it to this event. I hope that we can have a strong turnout for this meeting to provide a good
audience for our two speakers so that they carry away a strong impression of DePaul College of Law and DePaul APALSA.
It will be a good opportunity to network with two Asian American attorneys from one of Chicago's large and famous firms.
Anyone is welcome to attend the event so please tell your friends. We had a good turnout at the late afternoon/evening
meeting at the start of school so I know a lot of people are free at that time. Please help spread the word.
